Brechin Road Runners is a small, friendly group of runners of mixed abilities, from those running marathons (or further!) to those running their first 5k. Each week is usually based around steady runs on some Tuesday evenings, Intervals on a Thursday and a group run on Sunday morning.
Participation confirms your understanding that Brechin Road Runners do not offer insurance, and while taking part in group runs you are responsible for your own safety.
We have a few events which happen on a regular basis. Due to the completely voluntary nature of the group, and the small size of the group, these may not be on every single week so it is best to check our Facebook Group first and let us know you are coming along. We post the Events there each week.
You can also find our Club on Strava
Our weekly events generally consist of the following:
- Steady Run: Tuesdays at 6:00pm, meeting outside Brechin Library.
These consist of a 5 or 6 mile run heading out into the countryside: head torches required over winter. These don’t happen every week and the start time and meeting point may vary from week to week.
- Interval Sprints: Thurdays at 6:15pm, meeting outside Brechin Library or Brechin Community Campus depending on where we are doing the sprints: check the Facebook Events.
These consist of a warm-up jog, then a number of timed interval repeats. These may be short intervals e.g. 300 or 400m, or longer ones , e.g. 800m, 1km, or even 1 mile.
This is a good session for beginners to join as we either do loops somewhere or head back and forth along River Street, so it is easy to either run steady and not take a break, or to sit out one or two of the intervals as and when needed, without losing the rest of the group.
- Sunday Run: Sunday’s at 09:00am or 08:00am, meeting outside Brechin Library,
This tends to be quite flexible depending who is attending, but usually involves heading out into the countryside around Brechin. If there are newer runners we will do a run involving a figure of eight so it is possible to peel off after the first few miles. As some people are in Marathon training mode, these can get over half marathon distance, but don’t let that put you off joining us for at least part of the run.
